I consider myself a feminist.

So, let's look at an ACCURATE definition of what a feminist is:

The belief that women are and should be treated as potential intellectual equals and social equals to men. These people can be either male or female human beings, although the ideology is commonly (and perhaps falsely) associated mainly with women.

The basic idea of Feminism revolves around the principle that just because human bodies are designed to perform certain procreative functions, biological elements need not dictate intellectual and social functions, capabilities, and rights.

Feminism also, by its nature, embraces the belief that all people are entitled to freedom and liberty within reason--including equal civil rights--and that discrimination should not be made based on gender, sexual orientation, skin color, ethnicity, religion, culture, or lifestyle.

Feminists--and all persons interested in civil equality and intellectuality--are dedicated to fighting the ignorance that says people are controlled by and limited to their biology.
Feminism is the belief that all people are entitled to the same civil rights and liberties and can be intellectual equals regardless of gender. However, you should still hold the door for a feminist; this is known as respect or politeness and need have nothing whatever to do with gender discrimination.

Sadly, people use stereotypes and because of some stupid bitches on tumblr who have made it worse for us, people think us feminists as whiny and social justice warriors, which actually isn't the case. Sadly, people like to overgeneralize, because they're ignorant and narrow-minded. I used to call myself an equalist, which feminism is the same fucking thing. Feminists support equal rights, all you numpties out there who think we only support women's rights; we actually want equal rights on both sides. It's sad this has to be explained so much, because of immature little kids who only believe what others tell them about us, judge based on a few bad examples and go on tumblr way too much that they don't have a life, and probably talk to the wrong people about it.

"Its beginnings and extreme controversy in a (Western) patriarchal society has created stigma and stereotypes associated with the definition. Some include that feminists are:
-lesbians
-man haters
-'hairy-legged bitches' "

I'm a lesbian and I do have hairy legs at the moment, since it's winter here and it's bloody cold, so I have no need to show off my legs and I barely go outside and have no reason to impress anyone. The 'Man Hater' thing is absolutely ridiculous. I don't care if you've had a bad experience with some bitch who calls herself a feminist and disgraces other feminists; dragging the title through the mud. Doesn't give you any right to sit there and act high and mighty, like you know better. Because let's face it; you seem to know very little about feminists. I don't hate men. I have plenty of male friends, thank you very much. Would I be friends with guys if I hated them? No, obviously not, so think again. I'm directing this at those who think they know what a feminist is, yet talks shit about them. Also, to those who pose as feminists and talks shit about men, making people think we're all like that. I know it won't make a difference, whether I say this or not, because sadly stereotyping will always be a thing. Though, it's mostly dimwits who create stereotypes and believe them. Me, I like to make jokes about stereotypes and absolutely shit all over them. :D

A person on urban dictionary said:

"Feminism helped women get the vote, obtain equal rights for jobs, made laws to control domestic violence, help women obtain the rights to own property, to divorce, to have access to birth control and to have possession of their own bodies.
Feminism is still needed in today's society. One can see this through the other versions of this definition.

Man = Woman, no more, no less. Women were, and in social aspects, still are, treated as inferior.
Sexism began as early as Aristotle, who claimed that women were 'imperfect' men since they did not contain a penis on their persons.
To be superior, one must make something inferior. I am sure this definition will get many 'thumbs down', but it is the truth.

I am a wo-man and I am a feminist."

What this person said is very true. Sorry if you are too immature to handle the truth; I pity you. Also, before you jump into anything. We know there are plenty of men who aren't like that and as I said, I have plenty of male friends who are awesome, by the way. :D But, sexism will always exist. I know misandry also exists, which is the other side of the coin. But, you get my point (or I hope you do, at least). Please, educate yourself before you judge. The world has enough idiots inhabiting it as it is.
